The June
10, 2007 meeting of the Central New York Car Club Association was called to order at 7:08
PM by the President, Dennis Connor. Dennis introduced Laurie Farrell
of Liberty Mutual Insurance. They have insurance programs for auto, home and
life insurance. Later they may work on a program for collector cars. They are offering a package discount to members of our clubs. Also
Laurie can set up a defensive driving course and other insurance related seminars.
Dennis presented Terri Reardon with a GM Carlisle
shirt.
The DeRuyter car show is this weekend. Proceeds go to Ruritan, a local group.
Dan Brock from the Krusing Knights thanked those
that attended their show.
Bonnie Touron spoke on the Carol Baldwin “Beach
Days” set for June 30 at Gillie Lake Park
in Camillus. There is a cruise from 1-3 hosted by the Corvette club and a display
of cars from 3-8 with fireworks at 8:30 in conjunction with the Town of Camillus
July 4th celebration. The Baldwin organization
appreciates our donations and what we do for them. The park is very nice and
it is always a fun day.
Attendance has been good at shows and the weather
has been good too. The Ford show had over 330 cars.
Regarding the Nationals, the Thursday night cruise
has been approved. The parkway will be closed to other traffic from 7-9 and entrance
will be from the Park Street end only with proper sticker or confirmation
letter. Parking will be available at the “French Fort” and at Heid’s. Spectator parking will be near the Salt
Museum in the park. We will need a
dozen volunteers to help with spectator parking and crosswalks. Sheriff’s
deputies will be cruising also, so although open headers will be allowed, no burnouts, racing or reckless driving will be
tolerated. You will lose your show sticker and get a ticket. Contact Dennis to volunteer for these or any other positions. It
has taken several meetings to coordinate this and get the county to pay for the expenses.
We hope it will be successful.
A reminder was given to wear your work shirts
when working only. Once your shift is done, please change to another shirt. This way you won’t be asked for other information by the general public and
can enjoy the show yourself.
The Tredz car club has announced that they will
hold their first car show at Cxtec on South Bay Road on August 18th. This is the old Switz’s. Gates
open at 9 AM and judging starts at noon. The show will last until 4 PM. They have promised a flyer to come soon.
The Nationals Poker Run will be held. Registration and starting point is the host hotel from 8-12 on Thursday.
There is no fee but there will be door prizes.
Work t-shirt orders are needed now for the Nationals. Call Dennis at 469-0913. Security schedules
will be rearranged with less on Sunday. There needs to be more personnel on the
gate to get the cars in and let the people who are always there have a break. Club
members need to volunteer. Have your rep call Dennis with names and phone numbers.
Arnie True and Bob O’Connor met with Law
Enforcement officials recently regarding the Cruise and general topics regarding the Nationals. They feel they controlled traffic well last year. They had
no complaints from anyone last year. Regarding the 690 construction, the pre-reg
and other instructions are sending folks via the Thruway from the host hotel. Traffic
on 690 hasn’t been that bad and the show traffic is the opposite direction from commuter traffic on Friday. The Police agencies overall seem OK with the show. Income
from local sales tax that week makes up any overtime costs that were an early concern of government.
Remember that Dennis Gage of My Classic Car will
be at the Nationals as well as the Mother’s Car Show and Jerry Dixie with the Street Rodder Magazine Road Tour. In addition Barry Meguiar will have his booth there for products and we hope that
he will consider taping his show “Car Crazy” here in the future.
There will be a “Pinstriper’s Charity
Panel Jam” with 25 pinstripers in the Horticulture Building. They will be auctioning off various objects and the proceeds will go to Parents Plus,
a local charity.
Tri-State Auction will be holding a two day auction
this year and will use the whole building, expecting to have one hundred cars each day.
They are working on a celebrity auctioneer and please note that Right Coast
members get a discount on auction fees and bidder’s cards.
Dennis noted that the paper is not replacing Kenn
Peters in the auto section. Dennis is working on guest columns. Current columns will run out in July. The paper is tough to
work with.
Aric was recently on channel 9’s Sunday
morning news featuring the car show season. Video by Wayne Chase was also presented. Dennis and Arnie were both in Carlisle, so Aric stepped up. Dennis would like to have more features about our shows and is following up.
The Ford club will display at Dave Pirro Ford
this Saturday from 11-4 as a favor for show sponsorship. Check it out if you
don’t go to DeRuyter.
Regarding the hospitality room at the Nationals,
several clubs and businesses have donated but there is always room for more.
Dennis reminded us that Ric at BT’s is on
hard times health wise. Having spent time in the hospital he could not get the
trophies done for the Ford show. We wish him improved health. Dennis met a guy in Carlisle that got the job done in time. The company is Olympic Trophy Company. They are from Baltimore
and can be found at www.olympictc.com . They had a great price on shirts too. See Dennis for more details.
Dorothy Downing of CNY Street Rods wanted us to
know they are holding a camping event on August 10-12 with a picnic on Saturday at Sunset
Park on Cross Lake. Camping is $26-31 a night and the event is open to all Association members. Sign up or call them so they can plan for food. Call Janet
Warner at 673-4223.
Laurie Farrell held a drawing for a gas card and
it was won by Roger from the Bayside Cruisers. She also stated that they will
have a booth at the Nationals if you have any questions.
Bob O’Connor reminded us that on Thursday
of Nationals week there is a free picnic at Oneida Shores
from 11-3. Have your sticker or confirmation letter ready.
Car stickers will be the exterior kind again this
year.
The 50/50 was won by Roger, from Bayside Cruisers! It must be his lucky night.
Meeting adjourned at 8:22
PM. Minutes submitted by Aric Penfield, Secretary.
Next meeting is July 10th.
